Opportunities to Serve
The Follow Me Program
In September 2004, we began the Follow Me Program at St. Michael. This successful program was initiated:
- To serve and glorify God;
- To get everyone in the congregation involved in the activities that support our worship and fellowship together;
- To prevent the same people from taking on all the responsibilities month after month and burning out;
- To have a way to immediately involve our newest members in congregational activity.
Every member is placed on one of seven Follow Me teams that serves one month out of every seven and handles the Sunday morning responsibilities for greeters, ushers, lectors, coffee hosts, or communion assistant. Our Follow Me teams provide an excellent opportunity for all of God’s children to gratefully respond to God and share His love with others.
Lectors
The Lector remains seated with his/her family until the reading of the lessons, reads the lessons and then returns to sit with his/her own family. Any member of the church, including our youth, may serve as a Lector. A group training session is held on an as-needed basis for this activity.
Greeters
Greeters are the friendly folks who stand at the main entrance doors of the church building before services to warmly greet and welcome people to St. Michael. This is an important hospitality ministry of the congregation and one that leaves a lasting impression for those visiting with us for the first time.
Ushers
Ushers serve a vital roll in worship at St. Michael. Individuals, couples, friends and families of all ages participate in this activity. "Training" sessions are offered in the spring for those who are new or for those who feel they need a "refresher" course.
Coffee Hosts
Every Sunday coffee is brewed by church members and set up in the Archangel Cafe between services, 9:00 to 10:45 a.m. This is a wonderful opportunity for congregation members and visitors to gather in casual fellowship and conversation. The coffee hour also supports Fair Trade coffee growers and is purchased from Lutheran World Relief Coffee Project, supporting small scale farmers building a better future for themselves and their families.
Acolytes
Children, third grade and up, are invited to participate as an acolyte. The Senior Pastor offers several training sessions each year.
Crucifers
Serving as a Crucifer involves carrying the Processional Cross on Festival Sundays. Worship leaders are led by the Crucifer into the sanctuary during the opening hymn and leads the procession out during the closing hymn. Students from the Confirmation Class usually serve as the Crucifer.
Altar Guild
The Altar Guild welcomes all women and men of St. Michael to serve in this important ministry. Two or three people together serve for a period of one month. Duties of the Altar Guild include keeping the altar linens clean and the proper paraments on the altar; preparing the altar for Holy Communion, and caring for the altar flowers after the service.
Prayer Chain
The Prayer Chain of St. Michael consists of people who are interested and willing to pray for the needs, concerns, praises and thanksgivings of others. These prayer requests not only involve our members, but also the concerns of people outside our fellowship. Each request is handled in a private and confidential manner. Please speak with Pastors to have a prayer request presented to the Prayer Chain. To become a member of the Prayer Chain please contact the church office.
Feeding the Flock
This group consist of caring members of the congregation who are willing to provide meals for other members during times of illness, hospitalization and funerals. Please contact the church office to participate in this vital ministry.
